Beat the Holiday Slump for a Competitive Advantage

A lot is going on this time of year, both in the workplace and personally.

Since most tech companies have calendar fiscal years, there’s a push to get things done at the end of the year and a lot of deals are being wrapped up. That said, it’s also the holidays, and people can be more tuned in to personal goings-on than what’s happening at work.

Just like with running a marathon, keep running through the final miles – the end is not the time to relax. It’s the last mile: you know you’re going to finish, but are you going to finish with a 6-minute mile or a 12-minute mile? Are you going to push and finish strong or take it easy?

The end of the year can offer an opportunity and an advantage for people more willing to push vs. people who are distracted. We’ve talked before about things you can do as the year is ending and a new year is beginning, but if you show that you’re focused and committed to a strong fiscal year finish, you set yourself up in a better competitive position as you enter the new year.

Don’t let the holiday slump get to you – finish strong to start next year ahead!
