Hiring for Impact

Through our hands-on approach to recruitment and talent acquisition, these are common recommendations we make to hiring managers when it comes to hiring impactful sales representatives in the learning sector.

Educational Sector Knowledge

  • PreK to Gray Education: It’s important that the candidate has prior experience or understanding of the educational technology landscape, including trends, stakeholders (governing boards, administrators, agencies, students), and challenges faced by school and institutional leadership.
  • Understanding of the Buyer’s Journey in Education: Educational institutions, districts, or governments often have long sales cycles, tight budgets, and specific approval processes. The sales rep should have experience navigating this unique ecosystem.

Relationship Building

  • Long-Term Relationship Focus: In the mission-driven education space, relationship-building is crucial. Most sales representatives should prioritize creating trusted, long-term partnerships rather than focusing solely on short-term sales goals.
  • Consultative Sales Approach: Look for reps who use a consultative approach, identifying and solving the buyer’s pain points and offering tailored solutions that align with their needs and values. Transactional sales do exist in education, but larger deals and long-term renewals require authentic relationships built on trust.

Mission Alignment

  • Passion for Education: Good sales reps genuinely care about improving access to education and share the company’s mission to make a positive impact in education-related outcomes.
  • Understanding of Social Impact: Look for individuals who not only want to sell but also want to drive meaningful change. They should understand the broader implications of the product or service in shaping future learners or ask great questions related to the desired impact.

Their ability to challenge assumptions and support our vision with market data during the budgeting and planning process was invaluable. Their extensive network in the EDU space ensured that we had a strong list of candidates for interviews within weeks. Thanks to their efforts, we onboarded and trained a team of four within three months. In this industry, having a hiring team with access to top talent is crucial, and we couldn’t have achieved our goals without the exceptional support from HireEducation.”
